Leginon with FEI Eagle CCD?
Added by Thorsten Mielke about 12 years ago
Hi, we use Leginon on our Tecnai Spirit, which is equipped with a 2k Eagle CCD from FEI. The Eagle is connected to the TEM-server via an SCSI-interface. Leginon communicates with the Eagle using the camc4 driver from Tietz assuming a F215 camera. Due to technical problems, FEI wants to change the electronic boards, which also means to switch from SCSI to an USB-interface. The USB-electronic, however, is not supported by Tietz software/drivers. Does anyone has experience with Leginon and Eagle CCDs connected via USB? Is there any work-around for the communication?
Best,
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,
What software is FEI providing to acquire images from the camera after it is switched to the USB interface? For example, TIA?
Leginon/pyscope can talk to a camera through TIA. Otherwise, there may be a way to control it through the Tecnai scripting interface. We have an experimental module in pyscope (tecnaicamera.py) that may be the place to start. This module has not been fully tested and may not even be complete. There also could be another software interface that FEI intends for us to use for the USB version, or maybe an undocumented one that we can reverse engineer if necessary.

As far as I know, FEI will only provide TIA. Tietz confirmed, that they cannot support the USB Version. Thus I fear that we can not use Leginon any longer via the old camc4 driver.

Can you use TIA? Eagle camera is Leginon supported through TIA.
