multiple focus targets behavior
Added by Anchi Cheng over 14 years ago
From Yen-Chywan's e-mail
....I found and picked a sq and submit it. Then go
to hole targeting node to check the auto-pick hole targets. Then submit it.
Now something I do not quite understand happen. It hand to z-focus.
Instead of z-focus a hole then process a hole. The node actually did z-focus for
all picking holes, then hand to Hole node to collect all hole images. Why is
that? Then something wired happened. I want to test something. So I removed
most of about 50 target holes and only left 3 holes. Then I submit it. The
program seems still z-focus all the holes, I mean including those holes I
removed. But program later only took 3 hole images. Is that naormal?

There are several kinds of targets: the main ones are Acquisition Targets (green) and Focus Targets (blue). I have to guess that in this case you submitted multiple focus targets. What you saw is true that, as of Leginon 1.6, z-focus or any Focus node will try to determine and adjust all focus targets you submit to it. Therefore, you should only submit ONE focus target per image. We plan to change this behavior in the future.
As for why you got 50 focusing done but 3 hl images after you modified the targets, my guess is that you modified the Acquisition Targets (green) not the Focus Targets (blue) when you removed the 47 targets. From what you described, my guess is that you had 50 pairs of acquisition targets and focus targets with each pair overlapped at the same position. The image viewer can only show one at a time, being 2D. Therefore it only shows the one most recently activated. When you use mouse to right-click, it still have the ability to remove targets not displayed on top. It could be that you removed the green targets not the blue targets without noticing it. Therefore, you ended up with what you saw.
