removing the call does not break anything apparently on CentOS 6 (wxpython 2.8.12.0) and Mac OS 10.9 (wxpython 3.0) and Windows 8 (wxpython 2.8.12.1).

Therefore, remove it from the code

Need to test on Windows XP
