Leginon client system question
Added by Anonymous over 18 years ago
I was asked recently if the Leginon client (Windows) system gets anything installed that automatically started in the background (i.e. like the temserver that starts up automatically on microscope PCs controlling the FEI Tecnai microscopes) when users login or when the PC is booted up. My provisional answer was no, but is that correct?

Right now there is no service started automatically by Leginon, but this is something we would like in the future. The problem right now is that the Leginon client still has to be restarted a lot (whenever you start the rest of Leginon). If we can make it more stable, then we could have it start up only once when you log in or boot the computer.

Okay. By the way, the microscopist's question was motivated by a concern that Leginon might be somehow interfering with the working of FEI or Gatan software even for microscopists who do not use Leginon with our F20. (Leginon does appear to cause problems with Gatan's filter control software for the GIF camera on the F20 which prevent starting Digital Micrograph when it occurs so it is impossible for another user, after a Leginon session, to use the US4000SP camera either without rebooting the microscope PC. Also, Gatan's filter control software appears to be generally unstable itself so sometimes the problem occurs without running Leginon before),
