Leginon, Digital Micrograph 2.3.1 and SEMCCD-GMS2.31

Hi Anchi,
We upgraded DM to 2.3.1 not long ago to take advantage of the increased speed in data collection offered by the new version. That broke our Leginon stup because of the plugin. Last week I went back to fix it and found that SEMCCD-GMS2.31-64.dll was available at ftp://bio3d.colorado.edu/pub/SerialEM/DMpluginBeta/.

But, when I finally came around to install it, it was no longer available the ftp site.

I then contacted David Mastronarde and learned that a DM 2.3.1 compatible plugin was now packed in the latest release version of SerialEM. The solution seemed simple, unpack it from SerialEM_3-4-0_64.exe and use it, but David warned that the new version may differ from the one that Leginon is expecting to encounter and may cause unexpected behavior.

What should I do?

I'd say try it out. The functions used in Leginon are pretty basic. If not, let me know. We should be upgrading DM to 2.3.1 at TSRI some time next week and will have the same issue if you find any.

If it does not work immediately, I can send you the older, tested, one first until we've checked the official version out.

Hi Anchi,
David has placed the release version of the plugin at the location referenced by the K2 installation guide, and made a note of the change in the README file. Although there are changes between versions, they are enhancements in capabilities that should not compromise backward compatibility with the prior beta version.
I will give it a try and let you know.

I have installed the latest version and I can confirm it works.

I've communicated with David M. and have put a local copy at our site under Gatan_K2_installation_and_setup to avoid future issues.
