Dose Calibration - Screen control

Added by Anonymous almost 20 years ago

Hi everyone,

I have been having a problem with the dose calibration node regularly now.

The problem is that leginon doesn't seem to have contol of the stage. Has anyone else seen this problem? Is there a quick fix?

I have been working around it by just manually lowering the screen and then raising it when it is time for the CCD measurement.

Thanks,

Jonny

when you say "manually lowering the screen" do you mean using the button on the microscope rather than in Leginon?

There are two places in Leginon where you can control the screen up and down. I am curious to know which ones work for you:

- in dose calibratiion node "up", "down" buttons

- in the Instrument node there is a selector

The dose calibrator used to automatically raise and lower the screen when necessary, but for some reason we took that out and put in the two buttons instead.

Screen up / screen down - Added by Anonymous almost 20 years ago

Jim,

OK, I tested the screen up and screen down buttons in the calibrations application under the dose node, and on the microscope client in the instrument node.

The screen up button works just fine, but the screen down button fails.

When I press the screen down button in either place, the instrument node reports an error that screen down failed.

This is strange, and ideas guys?

Thanks,

Jonny

PS: Leginon works great for setting up tomography. I just collected atlased the grid found the good ice, took some high mag images, then selected some target holes, once those targets were submitted and focusing was done, I held leginon up at the exposure target stage and started UCSFtomo. I had to kill camc4.exe, then everything worked just fine and then I collected a tilt series and went right back to leginon and took some more single particle data. This is really great.

Jonny,

Just so you know that I was able to put the screen down here at NRAMM.

Does your scope and camera has some unusual setting that makes sure

the screen stays up while CCD is used?

screen up/ screen down - Added by Anonymous almost 20 years ago

I have some questions about raising and lowering the screen as well. I thought that the screen would raise and lower automatically in the dose calibrator as you describe but I eventually worked out by trial and error that I need to use the two buttons. What about "general use" of Leginon in the MSI application? Do I usually need to keep the screen up when running Leginon so the "acquire" button in various nodes and other functionality works correctly?

HI, William,

In general, Leginon dose not automatically lift the screen when you ask it to acquire image. Can't remember why it was designed in that way....

By the way, thanks for letting us know that the doc is not consistent with the behavior of the node. However, the function will come back in v1.1 so

I won't change the doc <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" />
