h1. Instructions for installing Fedora on your computer h2. Why Fedora? If you have a new computer(s) for your Leginon/Appion installation, Fedora we recommend installing CentOS because it is a cutting edge system considered to be more stable than other varieties of Linux. CentOS is the same as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), except that has all it is free and supported by the latest community. The reason I mention CentOS is because I wanted to keep the guide really simple. Another student and greatest feature. While I run appion on Fedora 10 and we've run appion on SuSe in the past. I know we gotten most bits working on MacOSX, but some of the python libraries contain ancient Fortran code that does not compile easily on a Mac. But CentOS is great for certainly not a desktop computer, requirement in general, it can be a hassle for a server. Fedora recommends is just that you upgrade the computer every 6 months and all but requires a upgrade every year. With servers you like things to remain first iteration of the same guide is written for longer periods of time, this is not Fedora. Fedora always has CentOS. We provide the latest versions. If you want something more stable we recommend installing CentOS. See [[Instructions following instructions for installing CentOS on your computer]] Installation: Fedora is a cutting edge distribution produced by a community of programmers that is maintained by Red Hat. h2.
